A prayer

The word "Maranatha" or "Maranata" is old Aramaic language and means: "Our Lord comes" or "Our Lord, come." In the first time of the church it is said to have been used as a salutation, like today's "Hi" or "Bye".

In the Bible, St. Paul used it, in his blessing at the end of his first letter to the Christian church of Corinthia: "Maranatha! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you! My love is with all of you in Christ Jesus!" (1Cor. 16: 22-24)

At least the handful of men and women who really knew Jesus - whenever they often hadn't understood - loved Him that much that they stayed loyal in spite of tribulation and desperately waited for His return.

As the disciple, apostle, and visionary, St. John whom Jesus on the Cross had set on his place as the firstborn of Joseph's and Mary's family: He expressed his deep longing at the end of his great vision, the 'Apocalypse', and so the last words of the Bible are:
"Speaking who witnesses this: Yes, I will come soon. - Amen, yes, come, Lord Jesus! The grace of the Lord Jesus be with all!" (Apoc. 22: 20-21)

Paul and John wish all of us "the grace of the Lord Jesus" - the unexpressible grace that through His death and resurrection we have become free from our sins who kept us from community with Him in Eternity.

Are you thankful for this? Do you look forward to His return, the Judgment, and Eternal Life? Then pray with us: "Lord Jesus, come! Make an end of cruelty and suffering, of lawlessness and greed, of illness and death. Come down and renew the world."

You know that He will return some time, and that your sins are forgiven, you have got the Holy Spirit and walk with God, but you cannot look forward to Jesus' return? Even then pray with us: "Lord Jesus, come! Come into my life and renew my faith. Show me what is taking my joy, and be you my strength and my courage to let it go and give it to you. Take it from me."

You cannot look forward to His return because you see the many who don't know Him yet? Or because certain persons who are in your heart don't want to know of Him? Then pray with us: "Lord Jesus, come! Come to these guys and let them sense your love, give them an idea of Eternity in Your Kingdom. Give me the fit situations, the courage, and the right words to tell of you, or send other people, books, tracts, web-sites across their ways to draw them to you. I cannot 'make' faith, only you can."
